Porcelain Veneers - Cosmetic Dentistry

A veneer is a thin cap that covers the front of the tooth for cosmetic purposes.

The Process of Getting Porcelain Veneers

  • A preliminary appointment is scheduled to examine your teeth
  • Dr. Swonke will discuss with you the dental cosmetic options available
  • Photos are taken of your teeth
  • Teeth are prepped to enable the placement of the veneer
  • Molds of your teeth are created
  • Color of your natural tooth is noted
  • Temporary veneers can be used while permanent veneers are made
  • Veneers are created for each tooth to make it look natural by color and fit
  • Each veneer is then cemented on the front of the tooth

Cosmetic Benefits of Veneers

  • Broken teeth
  • Chipped teeth
  • Discolored teeth
  • Teeth that are smaller than normal

Porcelain veneers are stronger and resist staining, unlike regular dental veneers. They can last between 10 and 20 years.

Caring for your veneers.

  • Do not chew on hard items with the veneers
  • Try to chew with back teeth
  • If you grind your teeth, a retainer should be used
  • If you play sports, a mouth guard should be used.
